Spring is here, and the Beachhead is open and ready to go. Friends of this comfortable gathering spot will be surprised to find a bit of a facelift inside with fresh paint and new curtains.
The menu contains other changes. Some of the old favorites are still there, but look for the new ones, too. There are seafood choices prepared in any number of ways, as well as plenty of delicious beef and chicken entrees for lunch and dinner.
On opening night, a friend ate every bite of his Lobster Mac and Cheese (and thought of ordering another). This is comfort food at its best, but a long way from what mom used to make. The Beachead version is a dish that just “evolved”, according to co-owner Kimberly Ward. “Everybody thought of it.”
The dish features large chunks of lobster, farfalle pasta and mushrooms folded into three cheeses (mascarpone, parmesan and cheddar) in a rich, sherry cream sauce that’s finished with a light touch of white truffle oil. It’s all baked until it’s hot and brown on top, and served with a house salad, bread and butter. Combine it with the perfect chilled white wine, and you’ll know what a really fine meal can be.
Also, ask how the Bare Naked Stuffies got their name. They’re new and already a big hit.
