Fortunately for Block Island, Winfield’s chef, Burke Marye, is back for another year and the restaurant is as popular as ever.
Burke gives most of the credit for Winfield’s success to his team of five men working in their clean, efficient kitchen — (pictured: Byron, Burke, T.C., Jamey, Hector and Joshua).
“I’m blessed with the best team I’ve had yet. It’s a pleasure to come to work,” Burke said. Together they serve consistently delicious food, always with their own creative touch.
We visited Winfield’s during Block Island’s Restaurant Week. The featured dish was a roasted half chicken with pan gravy, dressed watercress, pickled red onion and chive mashed potatoes. It was simple and succulent, “the way it’s served in France.”
A well-prepared chicken dish is the measure of a good cook. This one is just right.
