Sheila Fowler’s comments about Rebecca’s Dockside are right to the point. “It’s delicious!” she said. Then she added, “The fried scallops and the clam cakes are the best.”
We sat under an umbrella on Payne’s Dock enjoying a breeze on a hot afternoon and watched folks stroll in and out of this popular restaurant. Several gave us their endorsements.
Gail Hall said, “They make the best, quick, good, fresh, fish sandwiches —good stuff!” Pat Vaicaitis’ favorite is the mahi bites.
“This is my summer kitchen,” said Kate Butcher. Harbormaster Steve Land was “just here enjoying a cold milkshake.” And back in The Block Island Times office, Lisa Stiepock added, “I always get the blackened mahi mahi over a salad at Rebecca’s Dockside. I keep thinking I should try something different, but I like it too much.”
Manager Jacob Szabo says the fresh, grilled mahi mahi dinner is the most popular. It comes with cole slaw and fries at a good Block Island price — $14. Rebecca’s Dockside sits among the boats right out on Payne’s Dock in the New Harbor — a great place if you’re looking for fun and scenic views along with good food. It’s the newest of three Rebecca’s restaurants on the Island; all benefit from each other’s popularity.
This casual restaurant needs to be on your list for kids. The menu at Rebecca’s Dockside has all sorts of foods they will like — chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, wings, milkshakes — and plenty of choices of ice cream for dessert. They’ll love the view from the top deck, crabbing along the dock or just checking out the boats and people.
Rebecca’s Dockside serves breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. A private, catered event up on their spacious deck can accommodate as many as 100 people, and the kitchen can prepare “anything the customer wants.” They’re open until 9 p.m. weekdays and 10 p.m. on the weekends.
